Prescriptions

How to order your medication

There are a number of ways in which you can request prescriptions:

  • By using the NHS App, you can also register online.
  • You can request using EMIS Patient Access. If you are not registered for online services but would like to, you can complete our Register for Online Services form.
  • You can order repeat prescriptions at reception using your repeat prescription slip.
  • You may also post your request to us with an SAE but allow 1 week for this.

Important Information

  • Allow at least 2 working days to collect a prescription from reception.
  • Allow at least 5 working days to collect your medication from the pharmacy.
  • Requests for prescriptions cannot be taken over the telephone.
  • Contraceptive Pills and HRT and some other medications cannot be ordered on-line and so will not appear on your repeat medication screen on EMIS Access. You will need to be reviewed by a clinician before a repeat prescription for these drugs can be issued.

Prescription Fees

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is an agreed amount by the government which is considered reasonable to charge for patients who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

Current NHS Charges

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25
  • 12-month prepayment HRT PPC: £19.30

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
